what is shamanism
Shamanism is a life calling, not something that is learned in a workshop or at a school. Shamans are called to their path and may learn from elders in the community or venture to other countries to find a teacher willing to teach them.
Shamans deal with the soul. They serve Spirit not the physical realm and understand that everything is connected - a belief that humanity is intrinsically related to the natural environment and the universe. Shaman means 'wounded healer', 'one who sees in the dark', or 'Pathfinder'. The lives they live and the work they do is heart and soul centered, working in the spirit realms to heal illness at a soul level and working to re-weave a person back into their wholeness.
Shamanism is the oldest spiritual and energetic practice known to mankind. Shamanic practices have been known globally throughout history. Modern shamanism is not a religion or dogma and seeks to be respectful to all religious faiths, and cultures. Shamanism is concerned with the wellbeing of the soul and its journey in this world - its interaction with the environment, family, community, the earth, and the cosmos.
Where energy healers seek to move or shift energy so it is more supportive to the client, a Shaman will work with guides to transmute the energy through ceremony and ritual, by journeying and hands-on healing, using tools such as drums, rattles, smoke, chimes, crystals and chanting., and seek help from their spirit allies - animal, plant and stone/crystal.
